Children from four primary schools in Haringey have taken part in a road safety initiative with West Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team and Haringey Council.

It was identified that parents picking up children from the schools, were parking on the yellow zig-zag lines, not only causing an obstruction but creating a danger to the children and pedestrians.

School children from each school were asked to assist officers from West Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, in apprehending the drivers. The drivers caught parking on the zig-zags, were given the option of paying a fixed penalty notice (FPN) or receive a ‘telling off’ by one the pupils.

All drivers that were stopped decided they would speak to the students rather than pay the FPN.

The primary schools that have taken part are St Anns, Stamford Hill, St France De Sales and St Paul’s Primary schools.

Sgt Mark Pearce from West Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: " This joint initiative allowed us to engage with the pupils and raise awareness of danger caused by parking on yellow zig-zag lines."
