Haringay Ward

HaringaySafer Neighbourhoods Team Anti-Burglary initiative.

Three roads in Haringay Ward, known as 'The Ladder' have been targeted by burglars. To reassure and protect the elderly and vulnerable in the area, the local Safer Neighbourhood Team contacted several interested groups including Neighbourhood Watch coordinators to discover who might benefit from having window and door locks fitted. Once surveys were carried out, Metropolitan Care and Repair employed carpenters to fit locks as well as letter box covers. They also fitted door closure systems to addresses of multiple occupancy. The London Fire Brigade played their part by fitting smoke alarms and giving fire safety advice.

Sgt Ian Pyles from Harringay SNT said:
"This is the 3rd phase of this project, which started in June '08 and has seen a 90% reduction in burglaries. Everyone has a right to feel safe in their own home. Please help us to help you by using your mortice locks and closing windows when you are not in."

There were 79 door locks, 10 London bars and 10 window locks fitted.
