Pauline Syddell Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches Meeting. This was on Tuesday 13th September at 7pm. Dear Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches Meeting Tuesday 13th September at 7pm St Andrews Church Hall (see agenda for address/travel advice) Please find the updated (12-9-'11) agenda for the next association meeting. As you will see from the agenda, this will be a very interesting meeting and is very relevant to Haringey and recent events that have taken place. Please note that the meeting will start a little earlier at 7pm as we do have a very full itinerary. The first part of the meeting will be a presentation by the Police Counter Terrorism Command about terrorism and extremism and how this relates to Haringey. The second part of the meeting will be dedicated to the recent disturbances on our borough. We have a speaker from the Police Territorial Support Group (TSG) that covers Haringey, who will explain about their role and their involvement in recent incidents. There will be a question and answer session after the presentation. Police Inspector John Forde will give an update on Safer Neighbourhoods Teams; this will also be an open forum and an opportunity for you to ask questions. This meeting is open to all Haringey Neighbourhood Watch coordinators; you are welcome to bring along members of your Watch. Please do try to come along to this meeting. The venue is served by good, regular bus services that stop either outside or a few minutes walk away. It only takes 20 minutes to get to the venue from Turnpike Lane bus garage. | It is with deep regret I inform you of the passing away of Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches Chairman Ralph Crisp on 24th October. Ralph was an exceptional leader of Neighbourhood Watch and instrumental in forming the Haringey Borough Association of Neighbourhood Watches in 2003. His energy, enthusiasm and wit will be sadly missed. There was a Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches meeting which took place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 9th November at the Wood Green Civic Centre. This meeting was dedicated to Ralph. All were welcome. Haringey Association of Neighbourhood

2010 meeting as a Word document
On behalf of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches, I would
like to invite all Neighbourhood Watch coordinators and members to attend
the next meeting on Wednesday 8th September at 7.30pm at the Wood Green
Civic Centre. It is a great way to meet and share ideas with other Neighbourhood
Watch coordinators, and also put your questions to senior police officers.
You are most welcome to bring along members of your Watch.
Georgia Forde, the senior enforcement officer for Haringey Trading Standards
will be speaking about rogue traders / doorstep crime and you will also
have the opportunity to meet and put questions to the new Safer Neighbourhoods
Chief Inspector, Sonia Davis.
Ralph Crisp, the Chairman of the Association, sends his apologies and
will not be at this meeting. Ralph was taken ill at the end of June and
is slowly but surely making a recovery. We will still have a ‘Crisp’ family
representative at the meeting as Jonathan, Ralph’s son, will be attending
and taking minutes.
I look forward to seeing you on 8th September.
Yours sincerely
Pauline Syddell

Dear Co-ordinator,
Please find attached the Agenda
for the next meeting of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches
on Tuesday, 18th May 2010, together with the minutes
of the last meeting. You will see from the Agenda that this will also
be our AGM. If you have any suggestions or issues that you would like
raised, please do not hesitate to contact me in advance.
At this meeting our key speakers will be our Borough Commander, Ch Supt
Dave Grant and Sgt. Nathan Holland.
Sgt. Nathan Holland is a member of the comparatively new Safer Transport
Team, whose role is to to ensure your safety whilst using public transport
in Haringey. This will be an ideal opportunity to learn more and ask questions
about the Team's work.
As always we will also be fortunate to have the irrepressible Insp. John
Forde with the latest news about Neighbourhood Watch and ready to take
your questions.
I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. If you cannot
attend and you wish to send or bring along additional members from your
watch, they will be very welcome. Feedback by way of suggestions for future
topics and the conduct of the meetings, or any other useful criticism,
is always welcome.
Yours sincerely,
Ralph Crisp,
Chair, Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches.

Firstly, please accept my apology for the late delivery
of this
Agenda for the next meeting of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood
Watches on Wednesday 10th February, together with the minutes
of the last meeting, especially as I know that some of you were keen to
receive the minutes as soon as possible. Unfortunately I had to abandon
my desk to have an operation which involved a ten day stay in hospital.
Good news is that, although I am still mending, it appears to have been
very successful and I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible
at our next meeting.
Secondly, I'd like to apologise for the fact that at the last meeting,
which those of you present will recall was very busy, I omitted to pay
a tribute to Eric Beck, who has stood down after six years as NW Co-ordinator
for GMTRA, and has been a regular attender and contributor to our meetings.
In his letter informing us, Eric wrote "I have been very impressed by
the expanding Neighbourhood Watches in Haringey and the mutual benefits
to and from the SNTs with the consequent good relations and excellent
policing in our ward." I believe that this is a true reflection of the
state of Neighbourhood Watch throughout Haringey, and as a result of the
continued hard work of Pauline Syddell together with our SNTs, Neighbourhood
Watch continues to expand, and now stands at a total of 254 Watches, an
all time high! So many thanks to Eric for his hard work and commitment
and all best wishes for the future.
Also we had a record high attendance at the last meeting, with excellent
speakers and lots of interesting questioning. In spite of the lateness
off these notices, I hope we can sustain your interest for this coming
meeting, when again we will have the Borough Commander, Ch. Supt. Dave
Grant, giving us the lowdown on what is happening in Haringey and taking
your questions, together with Det. Insp. Dan Smith from SCD2, presenting
the work of the Sapphire Unit, which deals with sex crimes.
I will also ensure that there is sufficient time for you to raise questions
about your neighbourhood watch issues with Insp. John Forde.
If you cannot attend and you wish to send or bring along additional members
from your watch, they will be very welcome.
You will see that we have a much shorter agenda than previously to ensure
there will be more time for you to raise issues and ask questions.
As always, feedback by way of suggestions for future topics and the conduct
of the meetings, or any other useful criticism, is always welcome.
Yours sincerely,
Ralph Crisp,
Chair, Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches.
Dear Coordinator,
No doubt some or many will have seen last week's news about a blind woman's
guide dog being savaged by a terrier-type dog at a railway station.
For more information go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8368548.stm
There have also been two other ‘status dog’ articles this month, which
are of interest.
Please see http://tinyurl.com/ygxsc9a
and also http://tinyurl.com/ykc5fey
All this makes our speakers at tomorrow'’s Quarterly Meeting of the Haringey
Association of Neighbourhood Watches particularly topical and pertinent,
as many of you have expressed concerns about ‘status dogs’. (That must
certainly be a misnomer as, in my view, they do not confer any status
on the owners.)
Along with Sgt. Ian McParland, from the Met Police Status Dog Unit, there
will also be present Ms Claire Robinson, RSPCA Government Relations Manager
- she deals with dog related legislation in Parliament and their 'Status
Dog' strategy. She is also the main author of the DEFRA 'Guidance for
enforcers'. Along with our Borough Commander, Ch Supt. Dave Grant, this
should make for a very interesting meeting.
I hope to see as many of you there as possible but if you are unable to
attend, then perhaps you could try to arrange for another member from
your watch to come in your place, or with you if you are attending.
Yours sincerely,
Ralph Crisp,
Chair, Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches
Dear Co-ordinator,
Please find below, the Agenda
for the next meeting of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches
together with the minutes of the last meeting. If you wish to bring along
additional member(s) from your watch, they will be very welcome.
You will see that we have a much shorter agenda than previously to ensure
there will be more time for you to raise issues and ask questions.
We also have managed to arrange for Sgnt. Ian McParland from the Met’s
Status Dog Unit to do a presentation on dangerous dogs, an issue that
has become a matter of considerable concern to some of you.
Opportunities highlighted from the minutes of the last meeting.
This was at 7.30pm on WEDNESDAY, 9th SEPTEMBER, 2009.
at the Civic Centre,
High Road,
Wood Green, N22 8LE.
This meeting was for all Haringey Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators.
Minutes of this meeting. More time was dedicated to OPENSPACE – Haringey’s
Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators Forum (including SNT & NHW updates &
Sector Report, with Insp. JOHN FORDE). This was your opportunity to ask
questions and learn more about Neighbourhood Watch.
Dear Co-ordinator,
Firstly please accept my apology for the length of this message but
I do hope that you will take the time to read it, especially the last
paragraph.
Please find the Agenda
for the September 2009 meeting of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood
Watches. The minutes of the June AGM is also
below
‘Past on Your Doorstep, Future in Your Hands’, (1.92MB) a document produced by Groundwork and mentioned by Judy Hallgarten at the last meeting – well worth taking a look at.
The June meeting was very well attended and by all
accounts was considered to have been very successful. North Bank was
an excellent venue but an awkward location to get to. However, I am
very pleased to be able to report that, in spite of the location, we
had many new co-ordinators attending for the first time, particularly
from the east of the borough and hopefully they felt that it was a rewarding
evening.
The main focus of the meeting was on young people. (Ch. Insp. Dave Mann
stated that the term ‘young people’ is preferable, to the word ‘youths’
which now has very negative associations.) The main criticism of the
meeting was that we had too many speakers for the available time and
not enough time was available for a general open discussion regarding
Neighbourhood Watch issues.
Feedback by way of suggestions for future topics and the conduct of
the meetings, or any other useful criticism, is always welcome.
So for this next meeting there will be fewer speakers and agenda items
and more talk-time for co-ordinators. Also the meeting is being held
more centrally, at the Civic Centre, Wood Green.
- We have been very fortunate in that the Borough Commander, Ch Supt Dave Grant has been a regular speaker at our meetings and is always happy to take questions. He attended again on 9th September.
- The other main speakers were Kevin Fitzpatrick JP, Chairman, Haringey Magistrates in the Community Group, who together with colleagues Linda Logan JP & Sheila Smith JP talked about their work and presented a sentencing exercise.
- We also had a short presentation from Ch. Insp. Jon Williams on the ‘Policing Pledge’.
- OPENSPACE - Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators Forum (including SNT & NHW updates & Sector Report, with Insp. JOHN FORDE).
These meetings are an ideal opportunity to meet other
co-ordinators, to learn more about Neighbourhood Watch and what is going
on in Haringey.
FINALLY, Please note AOB in the minutes.
This was at 7.30pm Tuesday, 23rd June, North Bank (Oak Room), Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, N10 1PP.
Minutes of this meeting. Please find the agenda
for the next meeting of the Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches,
together with the minutes of the last meeting.
You will see that we have a very full agenda and the
theme will generally be focusing on youth issues and information about
some of the work that has been done with young people in Haringey.
Due to the unavailability of either of our usual locations, this meeting
will be held in the Oak Room at North
Bank, Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, N10 1PP, (attached to Muswell Hill
Methodist Church and adjacent to Colney Hatch Lane). It is recognised
that this location is not quite so convenient for co-ordinators in the
east of the Borough but nevertheless it is hoped that you will not be
deterred from attending what should be a very interesting meeting.
As always there will be plenty of opportunity to raise questions, especially
queries around Neighbourhood Watch, Policing and youth issues.
Finally you will note from the Agenda that it is that time of year to
elect the Officers of the Association: Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer &
Secretary.
Unfortunately our long standing treasurer, Terry Husband is standing down
due to prolonged stays out of London and the vice-chair, Richard
Gardner, has also stood down. The current Chair, Ralph Crisp, is standing
for re-election.
Nominations for officers, and suggestions for items to be included on
future Agendas, should normally be channeled through the Secretary. As
this post is not currently filled, please contact either the Chair, Ralph
Crisp, (ralphcrisp@btinternet.com) or send suggestions and nominations
to Pauline Syddell at the Neighbourhood
Watch Office.
I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible but if you are
unable to attend, why not invite another member or two from your watch,
to attend on your behalf?
Ralph Crisp.

At the previous meeting a decision was made to change the name of the Association to the "Haringey Association of Neighbourhood Watches" to reflect better, that the Association is inclusive of ALL Neighbourhood Watches throughout Haringey.
This Association is not to be confused with the "Haringey Borough Association of Neighbourhood Watches", http://www.haringeynhw.org.uk/ .
At the last meeting, it was agreed that the venue
for these meetings should be alternated between the Civic Centre, Wood
Green and the Royal British Legion Hall, Crouch End, to make them more
accessible to a greater number of co-ordinators.
As usual there was an excellent line-up of speakers and there was plenty
of opportunity for you to raise any issues and concerns that you might
have with other co-ordinators and police officers.
Please note, the meeting day has been changed from a Monday to a Wednesday.
The invitation to these meetings is extended to all Haringey Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators and members.
