Langham Parade Shooting :: Meeting :: Christmas Message :: Meeting December 13th ::

The Haringey Borough Association of Neighbourhood Watches provides information and materials for all the Neighbourhood Watches in Haringey.

Shooting in Langham Parade.

At 3.30pm on Wednesday 1st February, in Langham Parade, Langham Rd, N15, a Turkish man was shot dead whilst sitting in his car.

This crime was carried out in broad daylight, next to a busy transport hub, with total disregard to the safety of our communities. The suspects made off from the scene in the direction of Graham Rd, N15.

In response to this incident the Metropolitan Police has deployed significant additional resources to the Boroughs of Haringey, Hackney, Islington and Enfield, all Boroughs which have significant Turkish and Kurdish communities. Whilst the incident occurred on Haringey Borough, it is clear that it will have a significant impact on communities across the whole area, particularly the four Boroughs highlighted.

The local communities will see extra police officers patrolling the streets over the coming days. The presence of such a large number of officers is intended to provide not only reassurance, but also to seek witnesses and information regarding this crime, through engagement with members of the community. Officers from Operation Trident, working with local officers, are investigating the circumstances of the incident and we ask for your assistance in providing any information which may assist the investigation.

You can contact the investigating team on 020 8733 4211. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Haringey Borough Commander Detective Chief Superintendent Looby said:

Det. Chief Supt. Looby.

"Combating violent crime is an absolute priority for the Metropolitan Police Service and we assure our communities that their safety is of paramount importance to us.

"A number of different units within the Metropolitan Police Service, as well as those in Haringey and neighbouring boroughs are working closely together to support the Trident investigation and provide a response to the fatal shooting in Turnpike Lane on Wednesday.

"You will notice additional officers out on the streets, as more than 150 extra officers have been posted to patrol across Haringey, Hackney, Islington and Enfield since the incident.

"Across the four boroughs we are engaging with Turkish and Kurdish community representatives about our activities and local Turkish speaking police officers are visiting venues within the community, such as shops and community centres, to offer support and understand the impact of this crime.

"This is not a quick fix. We are committed to ensuring that those who insist on carrying firearms on our streets are targeted and brought before the courts. Our priority is to ensure public safety on the streets.

"We know that the vast majority of the Turkish and Kurdish community are law-abiding citizens who, like police, won't tolerate violence. It is important to be clear that we are targeting those involved in criminal activity and we are working on behalf of the community to do all that we can to intervene and prevent further violence.

"We cannot deal with this issue alone. I am confident that the communities affected by this incident recognise the importance of their input in tackling this issue and in ensuring those responsible are brought before the courts and held accountable."
